The Prisons

Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility at Rock Mountain (RJD)
located in San Diego California

donovanR J Donovan is a level 3 facility which means that many of the inmates are serving life terms, some for violent offenses and others because of the 3 strikes law.

We are currently offering programs in four facilities (yards) at Donovan. Some of the participapants see themselves as Buddhists and many are of other religions or non-religious. We meet once or twice a month for three hours of meditation, council and movement (tai chi or yoga). Many of the participants are incorporating meditation into their daily life in the prison.

Corrections Corporation of America Facility located within the George F. Bailey Correctional Facility in San Diego, California

ccaThis detention center houses people who are waiting for the courts to determine if they will be able to stay in the USA or if they will be deported. They are either in the country illegally, or have committed a crime and are not citizens. Material witnesses are also held in the Detention Center.

It is particularly stressful for the detainee since they do not know how long they will be held and if they will be able to stay with their families in the USA or will be deported to their country of origin.

The Prison Meditation Project is supporting the Chaplain with Christian and secular programs involving meditation, counseling and anger management.
